Can’t Slow Down

I remember hearing Lionel Richie talking about his smash 1983 album Can’t Slow Down.  He described the title as a description to where he was in life.  Every was going great and he had things to do.

I feel this is the period in my life that I’m in.  I have a feeling that people in their 30s generally feel that way.  It’s reaching that make or break point.

Right now I am working hard on The Radio Dan Show and I do my best to make the show entertaining.  I make sure not to miss shows because I think that you never know who may be listening that night.

Also I find myself vested in TalkRadioX more than ever.  I am looking for new shows and new outlets for the ones we already have.  Each day I am waiting on replies from people regarding new possibilities.  Granted, how many of them pan out?  Eh, I’d rather not say.

I’m also attempting to write something for the radio as well.  I’m just starting out and I don’t want to jinx myself so I won’t get into any details.

I think that I am 30 days from turning 35 has become a great motivator.  I can feel the sands of the hourglass running, dramatic as that may seem.  I know that I wasted a good part of my 20s creatively.  Granted I did spend the last few years of my 20s writing bad screenplays no one wants to make into movies.  So at least there was an attempt.

But the truth is that for years I just figured walking around being clever was going to be enough to get over.  It’s ridiculous but it’s true.  Then as I began writing I realized that this was not going to be an easy task.

Starting the radio show three years ago I was able to at least put my efforts into something that would bare at least a little fruit.  While screenplay rejections piled up in my inbox, the radio show has afforded me a slight amount of appreciation.

Regulars are in the TRX chatroom.  People call in here and there.  Someone is actually listening.  And that is nice.

But it’s not enough.  And I have more work to do.  Just like Lionel.

TRX Phone App

It looks like the TRX phone app for G1 phones will roll out as soon as this week.  I’m pretty excited about this.

You’re going to need to be using a 3G network to really get it going, but I think most people are in 3G these days.  Though for some reason my house is located right in Edge land.

Basically what this will do is bring the podcast versions of the TalkRadioX shows available to anyone who has a G1 phone.  And there’s about a million people who have one of those.

NPR has a similar app which was downloaded somewhere around 50,000 times.  I’m not really expecting a million (or 50,000 for that matter) people to be check this out, but I like the idea that people who use the G1 marketplace will at least look at the TRX Podcast icon on the list and have those three letters enter their consciousness.  A lot of people will look at the app and consider it for a second.

After this I hope to get one going for the iPhone as well.  Of course I don’t own an iPhone so I can’t really test it out, like I’ve been doing with the G1.

An earlier version of what the app will look like. The download side is gone and the shows will now just stream directly.

My Name is Dan and I’m Lazy

In case anyone out there has wondered where the new episodes of The Radio Dan Show are (since I have not posted them here or on my podomatic site) you can get them at TalkRadioX.com.

The new TRX site now has the ability to archive shows and I don’t even have to do anything for that to happen.  Just does it automatically.  And really, all that uploading and what not is a drag anyway.  So in true lazy man style the podomatic site will more than likely not be updated much, if at all.

I will keep it active to host show of special interest, an interview or a theme show.  However for the most part I don’t see any real need to keep it going like it was.

So head over to TalkRadioX.com and hit the TRX On Demand button at the top.  There you will find all the recent episodes of The Radio Dan Show.   You can even subscribe to it.  Imagine that!

First London (KY), Then the World!

I will admit to not knowing where London, KY was before a few weeks ago.  However I was made aware of it’s presence when I started to look for more Part 15 stations to syndicate TalkRadioX programming to.

That’s when I came across Radio Free London, a Part 15 metal outfit looking for something to put for the overnights.  Hey sure, it’s not WABC in New York City, but we couldn’t be happier here at TRX.

This now makes four Part 15 affiliates using TRX in some capacity in the last two months.  Hopefully there’s more to come.

Affiliate Mania!

Well, mania may be a little extreme, but it sounds good.

TalkRadiox already has an FM outlet with the Detour Talk, a micro FM that has several transmitters up and plans for a tower in a future.  So far relationship was gone very well, with lots of feedback in the two months or so we’ve been on there.

Now, TRX has added two new Part 15 AM affiliates.  1700 AM in Albany, Oregon and 1650 AM in McKinney, TX.  Oh sure both of these stations may be broadcasting out about 5 blocks or so (I really don’t know).  But it shows the plan that we have at TRX is really starting to move along.

Hopefully we can continue to add more of these Part 15 outlets as TRX grows.  Creating a network of original content and syndicating it out (think NPR or Pacifica) is what we’re aiming for.

The signals may be small, but the potential is big.

Just What You Need: More Of Me!

Tonight on TalkRadioX, there is a really great line up of shows.  I’m hoping this keeps up because it’s really unique and there’s not a lot of other places offering what we are.

I’ve written about The Freelancer, the in house produced radio drama, before.  Tonight at 10pm EST is another new episode, and in a personal victory it’s the second one in a row, and I’m hoping this catches on.  At least to a certain degree.

Following that is the original radio comedy show, Radio Meatsauce, at 11pm EST.  This has turned out far better than I would have hoped and as long as Arnold and company can keep it up, I’m all for it.

And then at midnight EST, The TRX Weekly Report does it live for the first time.  What was a Talk Soup like-podcast is now a live show that will still feature clips from the previous week from all the different TRX hosts (well, those that submitted them) but will also serve as a broadcasting round table of sorts.  I’m hosting along with Antubert and it should be fun.  Self-indulgent but fun.

Radio Comedy Drama Friday

This Friday night TalkRadioX has a couple of very cool things going on.  First up is the newest episode of The Freelancer.

This will be episode 4 of the crime drama radio series, picking right up where episode 3’s cliffhanger left us.  It starts at 10pm EST, so don’t be late.

Right afterwards at 11pm EST, TRX will have the debut of the new imrpov/sketch comedy show Radio Meat Sauce.  This is a long time coming for this show, as show producer Arnold Rodriguez was giving updates on this project on The Live Test Show for months now.   Finally the show is in the can and ready to roll this Friday night.

TRX on FM in JC, TN

This week the home station for The Radio Dan Show, TalkRadioX, has been asked to provide the overnight programming for a low-powered FM unit operating out of Johnson City, TN.

This is a pretty neat thing.  So basically how this works is that midnight to 9am on weekdays and midnight to noon on weekends, 105.3 WETX in Johnson City will playing TalkRadioX.  I have no idea how many people listen to WETX but the idea that someone can be driving through town and listening to me and Jess argue is cool.

WETX serves Johnson City but the signal is also relayed throoughout what is known as the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee.  So Kingsport, TN and Bristol, VA can also tune in but more than likely it’s at a different spot on the dial than 105.3.

So we at TalkRadioX are still taking baby steps two years in, and here is the first step on terrestrial radio.  Let’s hope a few more steps follow.
