TRX on FM in JC, TN

This week the home station for The Radio Dan Show, TalkRadioX, has been asked to provide the overnight programming for a low-powered FM unit operating out of Johnson City, TN.

This is a pretty neat thing.  So basically how this works is that midnight to 9am on weekdays and midnight to noon on weekends, 105.3 WETX in Johnson City will playing TalkRadioX.  I have no idea how many people listen to WETX but the idea that someone can be driving through town and listening to me and Jess argue is cool.

WETX serves Johnson City but the signal is also relayed throoughout what is known as the Tri-Cities area of Tennessee.  So Kingsport, TN and Bristol, VA can also tune in but more than likely it’s at a different spot on the dial than 105.3.

So we at TalkRadioX are still taking baby steps two years in, and here is the first step on terrestrial radio.  Let’s hope a few more steps follow.

Keaton is Back (Sort of)

One of the first entries I made in this blog was about getting the tragically underused Michael Keaton more prominent work.  It seemed that Hollywood has forgotten about friggin’ great this guy is.

So today there is some good news on the Michael Keaton front.  Keaton has been cast as the voice of Ken (opposite Jodi Benson as Barbie) in Toy Story 3.  Okay so it’s just his voice, but if used right maybe this is the springboard we’ve all be waiting for.

Still Awesome

Way to go Mike!

Big Nothing

I suppose Tropical Storm Fay was ideal for my purposes.  I didn’t hit South Florida, but it was close enough to cause an off day.  Nothing wrong with that.  Though I must admit, I did go into work on Tuesday for about four hours.

Most places in South Florida were open.  Jessica got a call around 8am to show up.  Where’s fun, South Florida?  This was a day for doing nothing.

One thing I kept hearing was “hey it’s a tropical storm, not a hurricane,” so most people really didn’t worry about it at all.  This amazes me because the difference between a tropical storm and a hurricane can be as little as 1mph (for Fay it was 14mph).

This spirit is best shown in the kite surfer who went out on Fort Lauderdale Beach and got violently blown across it and A1A into the side of a building.

Right now Fay is busy sitting over my mother’s house in Melbourne, FL and dumping a lot of rain on it.   And as for me right now I’m eyeing a tropical depression that’s out in the Atlantic and planning another day off.

Fay Day

Last night when I went to sleep Tropical Storm Fay was Tampa’s problem.  Living in South Florida, it looked like the effects I was going to be getting down here were minimal.  But as anyone living in a place where hurricane’s are an issue could tell you, things change overnight.

So now the cone of destruction points my way a lot more.  Still the west coast of Florida is the place that should be worried the most, however South Florida is now in that path as well.  So now it’s the typical storm warning behavior.  Get water.  Canned goods.  Gas up your car.  Stand in long lines.  All that fun stuff.

Here comes the rain again...
Here comes the rain again...

I suppose if this gets me a day or two out of work there is an upside.  As long as no one gets killed.  I wouldn’t want to enjoy some time off at the expense of someone’s life.

The Lebastache?

I recently wrote how mustaches are allegedly hilarious. While in some cases this may be true, but plenty of times it’s really not. However my favorite radio show, The Dan Lebatard Show seems to be obsessed with them.

Recently this show held a screening of Tropic Thunder and asked people show up wearing ‘staches. They didn’t even have to be real. Bring a mustache, win a prize, be hilarious, whatever.

So on Thursday when I went to go workout I hopped on a treadmill and turned the little TV that sits on top of the treadmill onto ESPN. Pardon The Interruption, a great sports show, was on so I started to watch. And then I noticed in the background where they have a bunch of heads floating around on the wall (very Sgt. Pepper looking to me) the heads all seemed to be the same guy: Dan Lebatard. And even worse, his balloon like head seemed to be wearing a really weak looking mustache.
But the time the show was over host Tony Kornheiser was had one of the heads placed over his own head (possibly an improvement).
But really, has Lebatard grown a mustache for his movie screening event? Nice work Lebby. In a week or so you’ll be a regular Jeff Kent.

And try as I might, I didn’t find a picture to post of this hideousness.
