If you were around in the late 1980’s there is a good chance you remember The Morton Downey Jr Show. It was this talk show that just popped up on syndication one day. Mr. Downey Jr. would, in each episode, yell about pablum puking liberals, chain smoke, start fights and stand up for real Americans.
I had never seen anything like it and it was amazing to me. Granted, I was about 14 at the time. Still, I believed that Mort was the real deal and guy who was really sticking up for the little guy. I watched The Morton Downey Jr Show for about a year or so. And then I got over it. I got tired of seeing him yell at his guests or anyone who disagreed with him. The novelty wore off for me. And really for most everyone, because seemingly as soon as he arrived he was gone.
Today while making a list of movies I’m looking forward to in 2013 I came across a title I was not familiar with. Evocatur: The Morton Downey Jr Movie. Oh hell yes. I’m so ready for this. Even though Mr. Downey Jr passed away back in 2001, that doesn’t mean we shouldn’t revisit the lunacy he created while he was here.
Check out the trailer and let’s hope they get it right.
