Phone App Done, What Next?

The TalkRadioX G1 phone app was released about two weeks ago and so far it’s been well worth the effort.  The app has been downloaded over 1,000 times and still going.

I’ve been trying to find ways to promote it and while I have been able to hit some internet forums, I really don’t know if that has done any good.  Unfortunately for me, I don’t know anyone who owns a G1 phone (other than me).

I’m also not sure where to go next.  The iPhone would be a no brainer, but there are other opportunities worth exploring like BlackBerry for example.

Since I started twittering a couple of weeks back, my general ignoring of this blog has probably increased.  It’s really all twitters fault.  I tend to blame most things on twitter now.

And lastly, back to the Tavares Watch 2009.  Ten games left and while the Islanders have played surprisingly well the last few weeks, they are still in last place  by a nice six points.

Being last overall gives them a 48% chance at winning the NHL Draft lottery, in case anyone cared about the odds.

TRX Podcast App is out now

The phone app developed for the G1 phone for TalkRadioX was released late on Wednesday.  I noticed it just before midnight in the Market. If you have a G1 phone go to the Market and do a search for ‘TRX Podcasts’.

Definitely seeing a bump in show downloads from the TRX site and the app itself has been downloaded “500-1,000 times” since then.  Not bad!

TRX Phone App

It looks like the TRX phone app for G1 phones will roll out as soon as this week.  I’m pretty excited about this.

You’re going to need to be using a 3G network to really get it going, but I think most people are in 3G these days.  Though for some reason my house is located right in Edge land.

Basically what this will do is bring the podcast versions of the TalkRadioX shows available to anyone who has a G1 phone.  And there’s about a million people who have one of those.

NPR has a similar app which was downloaded somewhere around 50,000 times.  I’m not really expecting a million (or 50,000 for that matter) people to be check this out, but I like the idea that people who use the G1 marketplace will at least look at the TRX Podcast icon on the list and have those three letters enter their consciousness.  A lot of people will look at the app and consider it for a second.

After this I hope to get one going for the iPhone as well.  Of course I don’t own an iPhone so I can’t really test it out, like I’ve been doing with the G1.

An earlier version of what the app will look like. The download side is gone and the shows will now just stream directly.
